Cross-cultural training
Cross-cultural training should make the adaptation of the expatriate and his/her family in the new country easier. This helps to reduce the failure rate and the number of foreign assignments interrupted due to cultural conflicts and personal discontent.
Cross-cultural training of the expatriates and their families comprises the following main objectives:
- to develop realistic expectations concerning life in Argentina
- to understand the behaviour of local people in a number of important situations
- to get to know possible areas of cross-cultural conflicts and to know how to manage them in a constructive way.
- to develop a sense of mutual understanding between people by highlighting common ground through cultural awareness so that transferees communicate and perform more effectively.
Contents and methodology
The cross-cultural training programme will be adapted to the specific needs and interests of the participants. Normally each training course is carried out individually for one expatriate and his/her family members coming to Argentina.
The training programme consists of different modules which can be individually chosen and combined. Each module is designed to reveal why we do the things we do, and helps to shed light on those things that shape a culture.
Examples of training modules:
- Information about the country, introduction into culture and history
- The norms and values of the Argentine society
- The role and the characteristics of communication in Argentina. Small gestures and protocol issues. Emotions and expressions.
- Leisure activities in Argentina
- Day-to-day living in Argentina
- The relations at work and management of Argentine people
- Education in Argentina
- Studies and professional training in Argentina
The training is based on different training methods and pedagogical instruments: Presentations, discussions, case studies, structured exercises, role plays, etc.
