Tip 3 - The Guarantee

Many times, when we ask an expatriate about it, there is a silence at first followed by an astonished gesture and a faint mumble and then by a “what is that?” And we are not referring to the name of a new specialty parrilla restaurant, an insurance company or anything of the sort. It is a system implemented in Argentina since 1995 thanks to which an expatriate may enter his or hers personal belongings without paying import taxes. This guarantee must be renewed according to the expiration date on the visa the expatriate has. Thus, if the visa expires at 90, 120 or 365 days, that will be the period within which the guarantee must be renewed. This guarantee must not expire, otherwise there will be problems when the time comes to re-export personal belongings and this expiration may involve penalties or extra charges.
